Illustration, Publication Design
Nearly every design student at CSUF has taken Art 323B, also known as the magazine class, a notoriously difficult course. This was the first time every decision of the project was in our hands. This meant coming up with a concept, picking a tone for the publication, sourcing articles, and a million other decisions. While this began as a daunting challenge, creating this magazine resulted in newfound skills and confidence as a designer.
NEWS Magazine serves as a how-to guide for readers looking to step out of their comfort zones and try something new. NEWS, a synonym for north, east, west, and south, offers a mix of practical advice and page-turning anecdotes. Every choice, from the color palette and patterns to the textured type, was rooted in the do-it-yourself, punk aesthetic and meant to mimic the natural world that this publication beckons its audience to explore.
